When you are born to a family of natural born warriors, you're born a fighter. When you train with a family of martial arts champions, you're raised a fighter. When everything as you know it is lost and you just have to ask why… it makes you a fighter. Deep down, underneath the shell of a young and unsure teen was a fighter. At first, Opherla wanted to avoid it. She wanted to hide from it… but seeing the world for what it was and all its evils, Opherla knew she didn't have a choice. And thus… began her journey to make herself strong.
As Opherla meditated underneath the crashing waves of a waterfall, she reflected on the many times she had suddenly heard this one term in the past few weeks…
"Saiyan."
"You're a Saiyan, there's no other explanation!"
"Only a Saiyan could pull that off."
"You're a Saiyan! You don't belong in this place!"
"Scummy little Saiyan, go along!"
Opherla had to suppress these thoughts before she broke her concentration in the heavy crashing of the waterfall. It was just a label. Nothing more. Opherla wasn't… no, she couldn't let that stop her from bettering herself. Whether she was a Saiyan or not, that didn't matter. What mattered was getting stronger.
She started her journey as a fighter when she was 4 years old, when her adopted family put her into a Taekwondo class. And from the beginning class, it was clear Opherla had an innate talent for fighting. It only took her four years to be considered a master at the style, and she was growing in power and technique even after the fact. She even adapted to all other styles with Taekwondo, and was the sole reason Taekwondo popularity began rising with her success in the Youth MMA Circuit.
However, things changed when that fateful night came. Thugs, attacking her family… and Opherla let loose, taking out the thugs and saving her family… but it was strange. The moment she saved them she was… sent away. She never knew why… never got an answer other than finding a different martial arts school to train at… Yeah, that worked out well, none of the schools took her in for fear of the Red Ribbon Army…
The more Opherla's thoughts drifted, the more angry she became. Angry at the world. Angry at the circumstances… angry… at practically the entirety of why she was in this situation. It was enough to make Opherla want to shout, want to scream!
"RAAAAAAAAH!!!!" Opherla yelled in absolute anger as her ki erupted, blasting the waterfall as it turned into a gentle rain, as Opherla panted and let it fall over her entire being, as she took deep breaths to calm herself down… Getting angry was not the solution. Not at all. All getting angry would do was cause her to erupt, and in a battle, while erupting in a burst of power might be a good thing… it never was the true end to any battle.
Opherla switched now from waterfall training to practice of her own martial arts she created: Lycanshoto. This started the moment she realized she could manipulate ki into her claws and even her fangs, or manipulate it at all. Opherla began to perform graceful movements and actions, almost like a Tai Chi martial artist, as leaves surrounded her with the smooth and graceful flow of the wind. Opherla had to admit, this… this was very peaceful. Being alone, by yourself, training your mind and body to become stronger… this was what she lived for. Sadly, she knew that this wasn't going to achieve anything for her beyond where she was… irregardless she kept training and practicing anyways… because it was what she loved…
Of course, some nights the full moon came out were much more stressful. On her first night of training, she leveled the entire forest she was staying in and was completely devastated from it. Mainly because she had destroyed a habitat for so many creatures. And so from that point on, Opherla had made it a point to either not look at the moon, or learn to control her power. She's tried both methods various times but it all ends the same, she goes on a rampage and levels the area she's in to the ground, leaving her in a sorrowful state over what she had done. But Opherla knew deep in her heart the more she tried… one day she just might succeed. And so, continue to try she would… but luckily for her, she had plans before the evening, so she could just shut herself up at home tonight. I mean, this is why she got a house with blacked out curtains, to NOT transform during full moons.
As Opherla continued, she did often question about where she really came from, who she really was… all she knew was she was found in a strange space pod with a note she always kept close to her heart within the confines of her home. "Planet Vegeta, go there when you're ready. You'll know when that time is. Love -Mom." That note… that note always bugged Opherla… where did she come from? Was she not from Earth? If not then who were her actual parents? Was she actually a Saiyan? These questions all nagged at Opherla from time to time… but she always shrugged them away. She was from Earth. She knew that. Maybe Planet Vegeta would have some answers but… it was best she just stick to what she believes for now. No drastic changes.
Opherla's training began ramping up as she began to punch and kick rapidly, trying out various combination techniques, chaining combo strings together into a beautiful display of martial arts prowess, Lycanshoto was utilizing many forms of combat, even some only seen in video games! Opherla kept this up rapidly, kicking and striking rapidly before she ended with a charged up ki shot that beautifully carved into the waterfall, as the water still fell, but in the middle of it was a slash mark from Opherla's triple ki blast as Opherla smiled as she nodded in affirmation.
"Alright Opherla, I think we can stop for today." Opherla smiled to herself with a firm nod as she would take a swig of water and grab her belongings, before heading back to West City.
This was Opherla's usual daily routine. While the thoughts and memories altered slightly day by day, this was her daily routine and her daily time to get away from the world… to the point Opherla was basically detached from the world. The only technology she had was her phone, to play games and listen to music. Other than that? Opherla was absolutely oblivious to it all. East City got taken over? Who cares. Red Ribbon Army pressuring Saiyans? Doesn't matter. The end of the world? That was the only question Opherla cared about, and she trusted her instincts that she had time to prepare for that. Lots of time. Maybe she was right… maybe she was wrong…
I mean, her teenage intuition has failed her before.
